- Exceptional interior design with wooden seats and information modules
Leinfelden-Echterdingen - With the handover of a Mercedes‑Benz electric bus to go.on, Gesellschaft für Bus- und Schienenverkehr mbH and Kommunale Verkehrsgesellschaft Lippe (KVG) mbH, an important mission is set for regular service: The KlimaWandelBus, a Mercedes‑Benz electric bus with a special interior and exterior design, impressively shows passengers how climate change happens and what consequences it has. On 27 March 2025 Robert Wilhelm, Head of eMobility Sales Coordination Daimler Buses, and Jens Dilley, Sales Mercedes‑Benz Buses presented the unusually designed eCitaro to Dörte Pieper, Managing Director of Naturpark Teutoburger Wald/Eggegebirge, Dirk Hänsgen, Managing Director of go.on - Gesellschaft für Bus- und Schienenverkehr mbH, Achim Oberwöhrmeier, Managing Director of Kommunale Verkehrsgesellschaft Lippe, and Matthias Kalkreuter, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Kommunale Verkehrsgesellschaft Lippe, in the presence of Dr. Axel Lehmann, County Counciler of Lippe and Association Chairman of Nature Park Teutoburger Wald/Eggegebirge.
A bus with a special message
The KlimaWandelBus is a project by the Teutoburg Forest/Egge Hills Nature Park that aims to bring the topic of climate change and its pressing issues to the attention of the general public with the electric scheduled-service bus. In future, the Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro electric bus will be used both on regular service routes and as an “infomobile” and project bus at events, in schools and throughout the Teutoburg Forest/Egge Hills Nature Park. The extraordinary design of the interior is intended to encourage passengers to actively engage with the topic – ideally while riding the bus or at stops. The project makes climate change tangible and presents strategies for how society can respond to it.
Learning on the go
Two information modules have been installed in the front section for the visual and audio transmission of information. Passengers and visitors are guided through the wide field of climate research via touchscreen monitors and intuitive menu navigation.
The actual passenger compartment impressively shows what is currently possible in terms of individualisation options in bus construction. Passengers sit on seats with real wood covering, for example. Under the passenger seats, the floor covering is printed with a forest floor structure, in the centre aisle as a grass surface. The side walls also feature large printed areas displaying forest motifs with trees. The headliner is printed with a blue sky.
About the Nature Park
The Teutoburg Forest/Egge Hills Nature Park is made up of many landscape and nature conservation areas and is home to numerous plant and animal species. Covering 2,751 square kilometres, it is one of the largest nature parks in Germany and stretches from Bielefeld to Sauerland and from Paderborn to the Weser. The goal of the nature park is to protect, maintain and sustainably preserve nature as a recreational area that people can experience first hand. This is achieved through various educational offerings, which now also include the KlimaWandelBus.
