- Vast transportation capacity, efficient air conditioning
- Drive system, electronics and batteries based on the eCitaro
With the fully electric, locally emission-free and low-floor Mercedes‑Benz eO500U city bus chassis, Mercedes‑Benz do Brasil has developed a durable and innovative basis for city bus bodybuilders.
Vast transportation capacity, efficient air conditioning
The eO500U chassis is a Padron 4x2 model from the renowned O 500 series. At 21.2 tonnes, the 4x2 chassis boasts the highest permissible gross weight of the two-axle vehicles in this model series and a correspondingly high passenger capacity. Up to five entry and exit doors deliver fast passenger flow rates. The two-axle chassis enables body lengths of up to 13.2 metres. With a wheelbase of 5950 millimetres and a length of around twelve metres, the chassis on show is based on the eCitaro. From a European perspective, 295/80 R 22.5 tyres are rather unusual for a city bus.
The eO500U's air-conditioning system has been integrated into the energy management system. This maximises efficiency in the hot climate zones dominating South American cities. SmartCharge technology for charging also signifies efficiency. The front axle with independent wheel suspension ensures increased passenger comfort. The new instrument panel provides specific real-time data about the electric motors, batteries and other electronic systems.
Drive system, electronics and batteries based on the eCitaro
The drive system and electronics of the Brazilian electric bus chassis are closely based on the Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro. State-of-the-art NMC3 high-voltage batteries of the latest generation are used. Energy is stored in two battery packs at the rear and up to four packs on the roof of the vehicle. The maximum storage capacity of 588 kWh forms the basis for an outstanding range.
Charging takes place by plug at the charging stations of the bus depot with up to 150 kW. The chassis' charging socket is located at the rear on the right-hand side. SmartCharge charging control optimises the batteries' service life.
