- Remarkable battery capacity for adequate range
- Unrivaled assistance and safety systems, new: 360° camera system
- Attractive passenger compartment design
A promise kept: Daimler Busses is allowing transport companies to participate in the rapid development of battery technology for all-electric city buses. This is proven by the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro with NMC°3 batteries, which is celebrating its premiere at the IAA Transportation 2022 Press Days in Hanover. With an energy capacity of almost 500 kWh, it can replace conventionally powered city buses – and is attractive for fleets, drivers and passengers.
Remarkable battery capacity for adequate range
Five high-voltage battery packs with a total energy capacity of 490 kWh spread across the roof (three packs) and the rear (two packs) ensure that the two-door solo bus has an adequate range. It is designed for charging at the depot using a plug and can flexibly move to different sites with charging sockets on both left and right.
Unrivaled assistance and safety systems, new: 360° camera system
Safety is always a top priority for a Mercedes-Benz. This is why the premiere model is equipped with the new 360° camera system. It significantly supports drivers when precise maneuvering is required, whether in the depot, car park or at bottlenecks en route, such as bus lanes with parked vehicles. Active Brake Assist, Turn Assist, Preventive Brake Assist, Sideguard Assist and Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) almost goes without saying. Safety and support for the driver also mean the switchable speed limitation to 33 km/h and the Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System. A driver’s cab door with partition across the entire width of the door creates distance, while an active filter with antiviral function brings healthy air on board.
Attractive passenger compartment design
Passengers take their seats on the City Star Eco seating produced in-house. The seat and backrest are upholstered in an uplifting fabric. Red ceiling handrails, ambient lighting with continuous blue light strips above the aisle and windows and a wooden-look floor in the low-floor city bus bring freshness and comfort. The special-purpose area opposite step unit number two can be used in a variety of ways: There is space for a wheelchair or pushchair, the leaning surface against the direction of travel has a folding seat. In the direction of travel, there are two additional folding seats as an alternative to a standing area. The infotainment system includes an 18.5-inch TFT monitor behind the driver’s partition wall and a second, large-format TFT monitor 29 inches behind the duct across the vehicle. 13 dual USB sockets provide the power supply for passengers' gadgets.
All of this is enclosed in an anthracite metallic paint finish, including the detachable parts. The result is a highly attractive overall appearance of the Mercedes-Benz eCitaro premiere model with NMC°3 batteries.
