  • Leading ESG rating agencies award Daimler Truck with good ratings for sustainability performance

Leinfelden-Echterdingen – In the first year as an independent listed company, Daimler Truck Holding AG (“Daimler Truck”) merged both financial and sustainability reporting.

Martin Daum, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler Truck: “We want to make zero-emission transportation happen and lead the transformation of the industry. Sustainability is of high priority in our product development, in the way we do business, and in all our actions. This is underlined by our first integrated Annual Report, in which we report on our key financial figures and on our sustainability activities in equal measure.”

Sustainability performance of Daimler Truck recognized by leading sustainability ratings

Daimler Truck has set a framework for its responsible actions focusing on ESG (Environment, Social and Governance). The company is in active exchange with leading ESG rating agencies and uses these performance ratings to further develop its sustainable business strategy. In 2022, Daimler Truck achieved good results for its sustainability activities and performance at all participated ratings. The rating agencies Sustainalytics and ISS ESG have awarded Daimler Truck for its ESG performance.

Important milestones achieved in 2022- and ambitions set for further sustainability activities

Already in 2022, Daimler Truck has reached important milestones in its sustainability activities and initiatives and has set itself ambitions for further measures:

Expansion of emission-free trucks and buses portfolio

Daimler Truck has expanded its range of emission-free vehicles worldwide and already offers eight battery-electric trucks and buses in series production. Daimler Truck is further expanding its portfolio of battery-electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles: For example, Mercedes-Benz Trucks plans to launch the series-production version of the eActros LongHaul truck with a range of 500 kilometers from 2024. The hydrogen-powered Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Truck with fuel cell is further developed to series production and the joint venture between Daimler Truck and Volvo Group, cellcentric, should start the production of fuel cells in Weilheim (Baden-Wuerttemberg/Germany).

Daimler Buses plans to offer locally CO2-neutral models based on batteries or hydrogen in its portfolio in every bus segment by 2030; a fully-electric interurban bus is for example planned by the middle of the decade and a hydrogen-powered powered coach by 2030. In addition, as part of the "ELCH" (Electrified Coach), funding project, together with partners from science and practice, funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK), Daimler Buses work is also being carried out on battery-electric coaches, which are to be launched on the market by the end of the decade. In addition, Daimler Buses plans to offer only locally CO2-neutral new vehicles in the city bus segment in Europe from 2030.

CO2-neutral balance sheet in production at European sites, more sites globally to follow

Another milestone in 2022 was the implementation of numerous measures for resource-conserving and climate-friendly production. For example, the CO2-neutral balance sheet in production at the European sites was also successfully achieved by using CO2-free electricity from solar, wind and hydropower plants. Photovoltaic modules with an output of around 7.2 MWp have already been installed at the production sites worldwide, enabling around 7.9 GWh of electricity to be generated per year. This corresponds to an annual consumption of approx. 2,000 four-person households.

As part of the “Green Production Initiative”, production-related CO2-emissions should be reduced by 42 % by 2030 in relation to the emission levels in 2021. At this time, at least 55 % of energy should come from renewable sources.

Daimler Truck is systematically driving forward the transformation of the transport industry toward CO2-neutral drivetrains and is also focusing on electric trucks in its own supply chain. Here, Daimler Truck has set itself the ambitious goal of electrifying 100 % of the delivery traffic to its largest assembly plant in Wörth (Rhineland-Palatinate/Germany) by the end of 2026.

Traffic safety remains in focus

Another key factor for Daimler Truck in the context of its sustainable business strategy is traffic safety. In 2022 various new safety and assistance systems were introduced in additional markets and models. One of the examples was the Active Side Guard Assist in the Freightliner Cascadia and also the Active Drive Assist 2 in coaches of the Setra brand.

Regarding traffic safety Daimler Truck is pursuing the “Vision zero” and strives for possibly achieving “zero accidents” with its trucks and buses. The company has the target of having at least 75 % of vehicles delivered in its core markets in 2025 and at least 80 % by 2030 to be equipped with safety systems exceeding the respective legal requirements in terms of performance and scope of application.

Proportion of women in management positions to increase to 25 % by 2030

Daimler Truck is committed to be a modern and attractive employer. To support employees in the digital and technological transformation, the learning platform "LinkedIn Learning" was rolled out worldwide in 2022 for all employees. The employees can choose from more than 17,000 e-learning courses and thus further develop their qualification across different topics regardless of place and time.

Daimler Truck puts a strong focus on the advancement of women and has set itself the target of increasing the proportion of women in management positions worldwide to 25 % by 2030.

Affirmation to respect and support human rights by updated Declaration of Principles

Daimler Truck is strongly committed to respect and support human rights and expects the same from its business partners along the entire value chain. The company affirms this commitment in its “Declaration of Principles on Social Responsibility and Human Rights”, which was renewed in 2022. With the appointment of the Chief Legal & Compliance Officer as Human Rights Officer at Daimler Truck, all preventive processes and structures worldwide designed to ensure respect for human rights within the company have been assigned a clear responsibility.
