The test vehicle is proof of the amazing versatility of the new Mercedes-Benz Intouro. Generally designed for inter-city service from its destination displays to the passenger compartment grab rails, the refrigerator and comfortable seating emphasise the additional use in excursion service. Thus, the Intouro turns out to be a real double earner all round.
Striking and dignified appearance with the design package
With equipment like metallic paintwork and body-coloured add-on parts, or a Premium version featuring the Design Package, as well as numerous appointments in silver and even integral mirrors – this Intouro makes it clear at first glance that it is a dignified bus for everyday use.
Versatile equipment for everyday use
Destination system, adapter and preparation for payment systems, grab bars, passenger signalling system, bus stop warning lights, a double-width door two - this Intouro is ideal for use on inter-city service. The full-length seating including swivel seats in the area of the second door and large luggage compartments also qualify it as a bus for shuttle or works transport.
The friendly interior with curtains, high-quality inter-city seating and passenger control panels with reading lamps and jet ventilation, as well as equipment with a refrigerator and tour guide microphone, also ensure it a career as a bus for excursions. Passengers benefit from the high-quality climate control and the Coach MediaRouter as internet access in all operations.
Attractive cockpit, versatile drive, unsurpassed safety
The cockpit of the new Intouro is driver-oriented and ergonomically perfect. In terms of appearance and equipment, from the multifunction steering wheel to the electronic parking brake, it achieves coach standard without restriction.
The drive is designed for versatility just like the whole bus. The compact in-line six-cylinder Mercedes-Benz OM 936 operates economically and with low emissions. The fully automated eight-speed PowerShift transmission is both efficient and comfortable.
Last but not least, the test vehicle opens a new chapter with its extensive and innovative safety equipment. The unique Active Brake Assist 5 (ABA5) emergency braking assistance can, within the system's limits, automatically initiate a full application of the brakes to bring the vehicle to a standstill in response to stationary or moving obstacles and as the world's first emergency braking system for buses, it even reacts to moving pedestrians. The highly impressive safety package also includes the optional Sideguard Assist radar-based turning assistance system with pedestrian detection. It supports the driver primarily when making turns in built-up areas and gives effective protection to more vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists.
Comprehensive protection against infection
To ensure the greatest possible protection against infections, the test vehicle is equipped with active filters for the roof-mounted air-conditioning system and the air conditioner housing, with contactless disinfectant dispensers in both entrances, and with a high partition behind the driver's workplace and a driver's protective door.
