Vehicle profile - Setra MultiClass S 515 LE hybrid: Comfortable low-entry bus for long interurban routes
- Bench tests: shorter development cycles
- Extensive road testing: summer, winter and bad-road tests
From the very beginning, the new Setra MultiClass LE is delivered to bus companies as a fully mature vehicle. To ensure this, Daimler Buses has thoroughly tested the vehicles in proven ways. It is true that the testing phase has long since been shortened by comprehensive computer simulations and many kilometres on test stands. But in keeping with an old footballer’s saying – it's what happens on the pitch that matters– the results have to be tested on the road.
Extensive road testing: summer, winter and bad-road tests
This included, for example, a thorough winter test at icy temperatures with the compact S 510 LE model and a comprehensive summer test. And finally, a bad-road test at the state-of-the-art test site of the Daimler Truck Development and Test Center (EVZ) in Wörth. This involved the accelerated torture of man and machine over various terrible road surfaces. 1000 kilometres of test track is equivalent to around 120,000 kilometres on public roads. The Setra MultiClass LE covered 8500 kilometres in Wörth, corresponding to 1,000,000 kilometres in public transport.
