Stuttgart / Mannheim - Mercedes-Benz presented a veritable firework display of new developments at the IAA 2018. The fully electric eCitaro, the new generation of minibuses and new assistance systems combined to make a feast of world firsts. The Mercedes-Benz Driving Experience 2018 is an opportunity to get to know all these new developments in detail and try them out in practice on six buses, either from behind the wheel or via demonstrations.

New eCitaro: highest level electromobility for low-floor buses

Taking electromobility for city buses to a new level: The new Mercedes-Benz eCitaro was the most spectacular new bus on display at the IAA 2018. The first bus has now been delivered. The eCitaro sets new standards with its individual design, unique technology with outstanding thermal management and its low weight – as demonstrated by two vehicles during the Driving Experience.

New Sprinter minibus generation: a trio with unique technology

The new Mercedes-Benz Sprinter heralds a completely new generation of minibuses with the three-pointed star. The first wave of models sees the launch of a new threesome: the Sprinter City 75, the Sprinter Transfer 35 and the Sprinter Mobility 23. The Sprinter City 75, above all, catches the eye with its spectacular design and unique technology ranging from the distinctive wheelbase to the exclusive heavy-duty rear axle. The Sprinter Transfer 35 demonstrates its versatility, the Sprinter Mobility 23 new ideas for transporting passengers with restricted mobility. All three benefit from the innovations of the Sprinter.

New assistance systems: world premieres for city buses and high-deckers

Safety and Mercedes-Benz – inextricably bound together. The current Tourismo Safety Coach continues the tradition of its legendary predecessors: It combines all the available safety and assistance systems, making it truly exemplary, as no high-deck touring coach is safer. At the heart of its safety technology are the Active Brake Assist 4, the first emergency braking system with pedestrian detection, and the Sideguard Assist, the first turning assistance system in the world for buses.

The new Sideguard Assist system is also destined for regular service buses – Mercedes-Benz is offering it in the Citaro with immediate effect. The same applies to the Preventive Brake Assist, the first active brake assist system for buses anywhere in the world. Mercedes-Benz demonstrates the new assistance systems on a Citaro LE hybrid – it combines innovative drive and safety technology in a unique way. All these safety systems serve to support the bus driver, protect more vulnerable road users and can save lives.
