Exhibition vehicle: Mercedes-Benz eCitaro G fuel cell with two drive axles

04.06.2023

The customized design of the eCitaro G fuel cell as well as its elegant paint finish in anthracite metallic stand out on the exhibition vehicle. In addition to four battery packs with a total capacity of 392 kWh, the city bus has six H2 cylinders, each with a capacity of five kilograms, to supply the 60 kW fuel cell. It is driven by two low-floor portal axles with ZF AVE 130 electric motors near the wheels, each with 250 kW of output. As a result, the eCitaro G fuel cell achieves a range of around 350 kilometers under average conditions. Alternatively, a combination with three battery packs and seven hydrogen cylinders is possible. As a result of the roof attachments with battery modules, the fuel cell and hydrogen system, the eCitaro G fuel cell features roll and pitch control of the chassis as standard.

The exhibition vehicle is equipped with numerous assistance systems to support the driver and protect against accidents. In addition to the standard electropneumatic brake system (EBS) and anti-slip control (ASR), Sideguard Assist and Preventive Brake Assist (PBA) contribute to added safety. Sideguard Assist supports the driver when turning and changing lanes by detecting pedestrians or cyclists in the difficult-to-see area next to the bus and by warning the driver. Preventive Brake Assist is the world’s first active braking assistance system for city buses. In addition, the exhibition bus has an acoustic presence indicator (AVAS) that draws the attention of pedestrians to the eCitaro G fuel cell, which is otherwise almost silent.

Three electrically operated inward-swinging doors lead into the passenger compartment. This is air-conditioned fully automatically as standard by the highly efficient Evo Thermatic basic system. Passengers are seated on 47 City Star Eco seats produced in-house. Handrails in Evo Steel, among other things, orange ceiling handrails and the designer interior ceiling with innovative lighting create highlights. Passengers are provided with information on 29-inch TFT monitors. You can connect and operate your own devices at a total of 15 double USB sockets.

Drivers benefit from an air-conditioned seat and use the familiar cockpit. In the instrument panel, instead of the usual tachometer, a power availability display shows the energy flow of the eCitaro G fuel cell, and an additional display shows the percentage fill level of the hydrogen tanks.
